Alfa Laval adds to aquaculture portfolio

Alfa Laval has acquired LiftUP, a Norwegian provider of waste extraction techniques for fish farms.
Located outside Bergen on the west coast of Norway, LiftUP manufactures, sells and installs pumps and cleansing gear for the removal of lifeless fish, waste and sludge from open fish cages. The compressed waste is saved in tanks which are shipped to a biogas facility, where it’s converted to renewable power and a high-grade fertilizer.
Effortless ’s AquaStream pumping system which brings up recent low temperature water with high oxygen levels (from around 25m depth) and creates an ideal sea present, providing conditions similar to deep fjords.
LiftUP, which had revenues of NOK75 million in 2020, will now be part of Alfa Laval’s Pumping Systems business unit within the Marine Division.
“This acquisition is a useful addition to our sustainable aquaculture portfolio, increasing our offering of fish farming solutions that will increase each the productivity and economic attractiveness of fish farming options whereas decreasing its influence on the setting,” stated Sameer Kalra, president of Alfa Laval’s Marine Division.
